Sushant Singh Rajput’s Father Files Case Against Actor Rhea Chakraborty

Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, had died by suicide last month, the police had said, reigniting a huge debate about mental health.

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s father has filed a police complaint against his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, also an actor, longer than a month after he was discovered dead in his Mumbai apartment.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s family, who live in Patna, have accused her of abetment to suicide, alleging that she cheated him financially and mentally harassed him.

The First Information Report (FIR) also names six others including her family members. A four-part team of Patna Police has already left for Mumbai to test the case.

This is the first run through the family have opened up to the world about their accusations and sources close to them say they deliberated whether to wait for the investigation by Mumbai Police.

The 34-year-old actor had passed on by suicide last month, the police had said, reigniting an immense debate about mental health.

Earlier this month, Rhea Chakraborty, had called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) test into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, tagging Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a post on Instagram.

Ms Chakraborty who has disclosed that she has been accepting rape and murder threats on social media over the actor’s death, said that she “just wanted to understand what provoked him to take the step”.

In a protracted post before that, the 28-year-old actor opened up about the bond she shared with him saying, “Still struggling to face my emotions… an irreparable numbness in my heart… You are the person who made me put stock in adoration.”

Broadly acclaimed as a promising youthful actor, Sushant Singh Rajput was discovered dead in his apartment in Mumbai’s Bandra on June 14.

The Maharashtra government has requested an investigation into allegations of professional rivalry along with his announced clinical depression.

Around 40 individuals have recorded their statements so far in the case, including executive maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, filmmaker Aditya Chopra, chief Mukesh Chhabra, filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor, film pundit Rajeev Masand among others.

The actor’s death has also made waves in political circles with Lok Janshakti Party boss Chirag Paswan keeping in touch with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, saying “On behalf of each Bihari, I encourage you to direct a fair investigation into the matter so that no talented person is exploited in future because of factionalism and nepotism in Bollywood.”

On Monday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar also kept in touch with the state Home Minister, demanding a CBI test.

Sushant Singh Rajput made his Bollywood debut in 2013 with the film – “Kai Po Che”. He was appreciated for his performance in 2015 film “Criminologist Byomkesh Bakshy!”, “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story”, “Sonchiriya” and “Chhichhore”.

His death prompted a downpour of tribute and recriminations on social media including the Hindi film industry, which has been battling allegations of nepotism and cliques.
